03.18 | ‘24’ producers deny Edward Norton rumours

This would be awesome:

Producers of hit TV show '24' are fiercely denying rumors they're set to replace the show's star Kiefer Sutherland with The Italian Job villain Edward Norton. Norton is reportedly in negotiations to replace Sutherland's Jack Bauer on the show in 2007.

A spokesman for '24' says, "We have no idea how this rumor got started. We are big fans of Edward Norton's work over here at '24'. However, at this time, there are no plans for him to join the cast of '24'."

Anyone got any thoughts?

Sorry I like norton too, but Keifer Sutherland is Jack and there is know who can replace him. I love 24, but without Keifer it wouldn't be the same. This is his Greatest ROLE to date and he just gets better and besides his eyes tells the story of Jack!!!!!!!!!!!

Only one Jack... and will always be only one Jack! 24 is the greatest show on earth.... Even ahead of Simpsons...

That would so NOT be awesome. For me, 24 ends when Sutherland leaves -- and contrary to another popular rumor, they'd better not kill him!

They give anyone a CTU keycard, why not Smoochy? (http://blogs4bauer.blogspot.com/2006/03/smoochy-may-be-next-to-die.html)

Who the hell is Edward Norton?

free single dating and dating - Service Mamboo.com They should get Edward Norton as a villain. Or to work at CTU. Not to replace Jack. No one can replace Jack.

Guys, you gotta remember that Kiefer's been doing this 24 thing for 5 years now. I think he wants to do something else like make a movie or something. Maybe a 24 prequel... but next season should start afresh. Clues have been planted in this season with most of the original cast gone by death or rejection.

I think 24 without Kiefer would work. But not with someone else playing Jack Bauer. The story writing and format is strong enough to survive for decades. 24: Conspiracy doesn't star Jack Bauer and I thought it worked too.

dude i LOVE ed norton but there is no way jack bauer can ever be replaced, period.

Posted by: hila at March 22, 2006 05:00 PM | #

Assuming Sutherland wants to leave, Norton would be an excellent replacement, albeit not as Jack Bauer. He has that same mix of good/evil that makes Sutherland so appealing, with a career chock full of playing bad good guys and good bad guys, just like Kiefer. To do Jack's job, you have to be someone who knows he's on the side of good but be willing to do incredibly horrible things - often to people who don't deserve it - to accomplish a greater end. No plain-faced pretty boys need apply. I hope Sutherland stays, but I would at least give a fighting chance to a Norton-led ensemble.

Jack Bauer is 24, how could you ever possibly make the show without Kiefer Sutherland? No one else could possibly give the same intensity that Kiefer offers the show, exactly what the show is based around. I think that there is no way that they could ever kill off Kiefer's character, As jack is what fans relate to - 24 is essentially the trials and tribulations of Jack Bauer - they have already pretty much killed off all of the original cast from the first few series' (R.I.P Tony) and the production team would take a massive risk by removing the main character. Would Matt groening ever consider killing off the Simpson Family???? I doubt it - However im am pretty sure that they will want to maximise revenue from the 24 series and it will probably end up like CSI - where they have spin off shows maybe coming from another branch of CTU. Ed Norton is an excellent actor and would fit a character in a 24 well but as the lead?? im not too sure - there is only one main man and there will always be only one Jack Bauer!

Kiefer Sutherland IS Jack Bauer ... and vice versa. There's no such thing as a replacement for him. If Ed Norton joined the cast, it would have to be as an entirely different character. No true *24* fan would ever accept a new Jack Bauer. And I suspect that if Kiefer were to leave the show, or be replaced by another actor (regardless of whom it might be), a lot of fans would leave the show as well. I know I would.

Fox, as a network, has never been the brightest bulb in the box but they are not likely to forget the mistake of trying to keep the X-Files alive without David Duchovny. Certain shows are successful because of the lead character. The X-Files was one, 24 is another. I can see them trying to do a spinoff from the show but 24 itself will end when Kiefer walks, probably after season six.

NO! kiefer can'tleave, he is like, THE reason 24 is so addictive (well the plot kinda helps too) if kiefer gets killed i will cry. For days. And days. And days. I will need therapy!

24 is popular because of Jack and the fact that people can connect with him at least in some very primal ways...he demonstrates an intensity in the midst of chaos that is pretty incredible. Committed. Trustworthy. Wise. A man that you would want to have your back if you were in the middle of it, you know? FOX has done an excellent job of casting Kiefer, and to be honest, should keep it the way it is for as long as they can...I mean, historically, originality is never easily copied...Just look at all the lame TV shows of histroy past...and Jack is a timely and original introduction to the times we live in...people connect with that.

There are more reasons 'not' to replace Keifer, than to replace him. - just look at the 16 previous responses to this post - fans would revolt - there is no logical reason, the ratings are still very high - this show saved his career - Edward hasn't shown the range that is needed to pull of some of the "Jackisms" that we've been enjoying for FIVE SEASONS!

it's very simple no kiefer sutheland 24 is done for me. without him there is no 24 period.

I saw a "24" listing on IMDB (it's since been removed) for Ed Norton to be on THIS season as a character called "John Bauer," presumably, Jack's brother. This is all VERY strange.

Posted by: Patsox23 at April 4, 2006 04:40 AM | #

I hope it's not true. Id stop watching TV entirely if Bauer was killed off. He's my reason of reality.

Kiefer signed today for 40 million for 3 more years.

24 is THE ONLY reality show on TV. It's a real study, on many levels. I have my boys watch it as a "training" show, and discuss with them afterwards the plot lines and twists. It helps them think outside the government-indoctrinated school-system box. Even with the unfortunate deaths of lead characters during this season, 24 still has a huge canvass to work with in developing future episodes beyond this season's. But 24 will have to leave Los Angeles, per se, as LA is getting old, as being portrayed as the only place in the nation, or the world, where such events take place. Jack will have to leave LA for other parts of the country, even for other areas of the world, where he will inadvertently come across and track down previous season's hanging/dangling unsolved leads, as well as dealing with new ventures/villains. For the world conspiracy which grips us all runs very deep and into very high places. And it's time that Jack takes on the REAL CONSPIRATORS! 24, if done properly, has a huge canvass to work with, and can not only be very entertaining, but revealing as well.

now that we know Kiefer has signed the new contract the Ed Norton-thing is pretty much over; the bad thing about the new contract: how will they keep up suspense in the next threee years, because, be honest, we're so afraid even Jack would die that we're absolutely hooked to "24"; we would like to save him if we could and we actually try by writing this in blogs like this; but now that we succeeded: doesn't it feel a bit strange too? it's about reality interfering with the show, there's something inadequate about it; next bad news is: how can Kiefer get some rest now (rolling stone-interview)? how will he be able to stop drinking? how can he find a woman (same question as for Jack Bauer?) Good news about the new deal is: Kiefer gets a lot of money, and he deserves it and we know he'll do good things with it (like his new record label). He also gets other chances at Fox's and this can only be a great opportunity for him and Fox. Also good news is: I will go on watching "24", because I would never ever have gone on watching it with a different person but Kiefer in the main part. Never ever, and it's not even that I don't like Norton, not at all, but I simply wouldn't watch the show anymore. I guess best thing would have been to make the deal and not telling the public - but maybe this isn't possible, especially with the internet and the media.

40 Million, for 3 years, he should be getting 3-5 Million per episode, not 500k per episode, anyone remember SEINFELD....Kiefer should not have signed a contract, he should have a blank check.....he leaves, the series dies and syndication will not sell on TV, and DVD collectors (like me, they stop when he stops) Bill Comeau State Of MA

Please, please, please don't get rid of Jack!! I love him to bits- his whole complex character and unpredictable ways are what make 24 such a great show to watch. This series is honestly the best thing I've ever seen. It is absolutely gripping, so very cleverly written and directed. I've seen myself staying up til 3 in the morning, just because it's so exciting and, might I add, nerve-wrecking!!! Stay with us Jack, we're all behind you.
