01.18 | Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran interviewed about '24'

We seriously considered changing the format for Year 2 so that each episode would stretch 24 hours. We wrote a prototype script for it, and ... there was a point where I was really in favor of it. However, it wasn't the show we'd set out to do.
'24' co-creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran reveal that they almost dumped the real-time format after the first season. Which you might have already known, but I never knew they went as far as developing scripts. I wonder if they'll ever turn up anywhere?

Comments:

Wouldn't it be great to focus an episode on Jack Bauer's need to go get a FISA warrant? The whole show could be him filling out paperwork and talking to justice department lawyers via sat-phone!

Changing 24 after season one is understandable. The sequential prime-time program was just catching on three years ago. Now the danger of 24 is how to sustain the suspense without becoming repetitive. Look how other sequential shows have painted themselves into a corner plot-wise. Season five began with a bang; hopefully it will sustain the creativity.

i am SO glad they decided to scrap that idea. 24 just wouldn't be 24 anymore! and on a further note, after viewing the previews for next week, i hope logan eats a bullet this season.
