11.30 | Happy Birthday to Elisha Cuthbert

Actress Elisha Cuthbert is 23 years old today.

Elisha Cuthbert

Happy birthday, Elisha. I'm sure all your fans on the internet would wish you the same.

11.22 | Sky One to broadcast '24' series five in high definition

Just a quickie: Sky has announced plans for its high definition TV (HDTV) service to start in April 2006. Sky HD will make four channels available in the enhanced format: Sky Sports HD, Sky Movies HD, Artsworld HD (eh?) and Sky One HD, including '24'.

With '24' season five likely to premiere on Sky One around the beginning of February 2006, it's likely that either some or all of the fifth season will be broadcast in the UK using the high definition format.

11.18 | Robocop to appear in '24's 5th season along with some other actors

'24' fan Nina Myers brings news of three more stars who have been cast for roles in '24' season five:

British actor Julian Sands is to play 'billionaire bad guy' Vladimir Bierko...

...Robocop star Peter Weller is federal agent Christopher Henderson, "who recruited Jack to counter terrorist work more than a decade ago". Which is interesting, as we might get a back of back story - or possibly even a flashback. Can't see how that'll work in real time, so it probably won't happen...

...and Oscar nominee JoBeth Williams is cast as Miriam Henderson, Christopher's wife.

Weird connections: Julian Sands appeared in 'Timecode' alongside Xander Berkeley, the guy who played George Mason in seasons one and two. 'Timecode' is, like '24', set in real time. Spooky, huh?

Hang on... Robocop is going to be in '24'? Sweet.

11.16 | Read Elisha Cuthbert's NHL hockey blog

Apparently Elisha Cuthbert - who played Kim Bauer in the first three seasons of '24' - has become a blogger:

When you picture an "NHL blogger," you probably don't picture Elisha Cuthbert, star of '24' and permanent fixture on the cover of men's magazines. But NHL.com is running the thoughts of the 22-year-old Canadian actress and avid Kings fan on its "Blog Central."

"Look at me I'm slowly turning into a reporter! LOL," reads her latest entry. LOL indeed.

You can find her - almost daily, and surely ghostwritten - updates at the National Hockey League website. That's right - she's writing about hockey, being Canadian.

No, I don't understand it either. Thanks to the Feeling Listless weblog for the link. Maybe he can explain it better.

11.15 | Jonah Lotan joins the '24' cast for the fifth season

Jonah LotanJonah Lotan has joined the cast of '24' for the fifth season. He's been cast as Spencer Wolf, a new CTU agent.

He previously appeared in the British detective series 'Foyle's War', London/New York cross-over show 'Ny-Lon' and the Keira Knightley film 'The Jacket'.

I'm guessing he'll be the eye candy.

EDIT: Rumour has it that Spencer will be... dur dur dur... Chloe's boyfriend. OMGWTFBBQ!

11.15 | Dennis Haysbert to appear in 'Breach'

Dennis Haysbert, AKA President Palmer, is to star in the film 'Breach':

The Universal Pictures project, based on real-life events, follows an aspiring FBI agent (Ryan Phillippe) who is handpicked to work for a renowned operative (Chris Cooper) in the classified intelligence division. The trainee discovers that his mentor might be the nation's most dangerous security risk. Haysbert will play an investigating agent alongside Laura Linney, who already has boarded the project.
Sounds like one to watch out for.

11.06 | Carlos Bernard on Japanese TV show

Carlos Bernard, AKA '24's Tony Almeida, recently appeared on TV in Japan to promote the the show's DVD boxset. You can watch the video of this online.

It's eight minute clip of Fuji-TV's "One Night" show, but it's a hilarious eight minutes even if you don't understand Japanese. Enjoy.

11.03 | Photos of Kiefer Sutherland on the season five set

Kiefer Sutherland fansite bluegreeneyes.com has a whole gallery of photographs taken at the Northridge Mall during the filming of the new season in the last week of October.

Jack Bauer - season five

Here's the rest of the photo gallery. Good stuff. Looks like there's some kind of nerve gas being released? Who knows, eh?

FYI, fact fans: the Northridge Mall is the same mall that was used in the first few episodes of the third season where Tony Almeida got shot IN THE NECK!

11.03 | Man jailed for impersonating Kiefer Sutherland

I think we've found a new baddie for season six. Daniel Bennett Peterson is a stalker who carries a 29-inch sword, pretends to be the President's chauffeur, changed his legal name so he can impersonate senators and tells the women he picks up that's he's Kiefer Sutherland:

A Highlands Ranch resident who has been under investigation in the past for identity theft and charged with stalking a woman and carrying a concealed weapon, has been arrested again. This time for impersonating a police officer.

In November 2003, Daniel Bennett Peterson, then-46, was investigated by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for using the Denver and Buffalo Creek addresses of a foreign consulate in an identity-theft scheme.

Peterson, who legally changed his first name to Senator and has used a variety of other aliases, including the last name Pettersson and Otterman, also was charged with stalking an Arvada woman while carrying a 29-inch sword, as well as violating a restraining order regarding a second woman in Denver.

In the fall of 2003, the Jefferson County office of the Division of Motor Vehicles notified the sheriff’s office that Peterson was suspected of registering vehicles, one of several driver’s licenses, and other government documents to a foreign consulate in Denver. The consul also owned a summer home in Buffalo Creek.

According to Jeffco Sheriff’s Investigator Chris Nelson, Peterson used his new first name, Senator, to pass himself off as a dignitary. He’d also contacted women claiming to be the actor Kiefer Sutherland. And one of his driver’s licenses indicated that he was a chauffeur for the president of the United States.

What a nutjob. The Drazens ain't got nuttin' on him.

11.01 | Elisha Cuthbert won't go naked in movies

Elisha Cuthbert nearly naked

Not exactly '24' related, but probably still of interest to fans of the show as Elisha Cuthbert, the actress who played Jack's daughter Kim Bauer, has vowed to never go fully nude in a film:

"I'll never be fully naked in a movie.

"I just don't feel comfortable with it, secondly I think you can be a leading lady and not be naked."

"You can still make a character believable without going there."

"I snuck into the back of the cinema when Girl Next Door was playing and during the window scene, which pushed the envelope but didn't actually go there, I remember some of the audience being really disappointed and going 'Awww...'"

I say down with this sort of thing. You can read the full interview in the latest issue of Arena magazine.

11.01 | '24's third season to premiere on free-to-air Sky Three in November 2005

Probably old news this, but digital terrestrial Freeview viewers are finally going to be able to watch the third season of '24' thanks to newchannel Sky Three.

Sky has launched the new Sky Three channel, replacing the Sky Travel channel on Freeview. The new channel is going to run old Sky One shows, so, though you won't be able to see the fourth and fifth seasons of '24' yet, the third series will be shown as a 'taster' to get you to 'upgrade' to a full Sky package. As we all know, the first and second seasons ran on BBC2, until Sky decided to fuck over most fans of the show by putting it on their satellite-only Sky One channel.

Now, eighteen months after most of you would have either downloaded it or bought the DVD set, you'll be able to see if for free if you've got a Freeview box - the first time it's been shown on TV in the UK without you needing an expensive satellite package.

'24' season three premieres on the free-to-air Sky Three channel on Saturday November 12th at 9pm.

Do we need any more digital TV channels, though? There isn't anything else worth watching on Sky Three. Except maybe repeats of 'Tru Calling'.

My advice is that if you don't have a Freeview box and you haven't yet seen this season of '24', this might be the time to splash out. Either that or buy the DVDs off Amazon for £34.
