05.23 | '24' fourth season two hour finale airs tonight at 8PM

If you're in the US, you can watch the '24' fourth season two hour finale tonight. Because there's two episodes tonight, it's starting an hour earlier at 8PM rather than the usual time of 9PM.

Here's hoping it's a good one.

UPDATE: Anyone who hasn't seen the finale episodes is STRONGLY advised not to read the comments to this post because other readers WILL and HAVE ALREADY posted spoilers there. Seriously. DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS if you haven't seen episode 24. Don't blame me if you go ahead and read them.

Whoa, they said the season finale will change 24 forever. So since Jack Bauer is dead man. What will the next season bring us?

OK, so is Kefer going on to greener pastures? He's pretty much out of the picture now isn't he? Unless he has facial surgery and comes back under a new name.

Posted by: JDS at May 24, 2005 03:05 AM | #

He's confirmed to be in the next series.

Posted by: dryan at May 24, 2005 02:35 PM | #

I think Jack will be back - they can't leave us Bauer-less for long !

Posted by: Jenna at May 24, 2005 02:46 PM | #

I've read (in several places) that Kiefer is supposed to be back next year. It may be a Hunt for Jack with him trying to stay ahead of, well, everyone. They have the whole China situation to deal with. I have also read that season five is in preproduction already an the new writers are working on fleshing the whole season out. It will be interesting.

Posted by: Partly at May 24, 2005 03:11 PM | #

Nope, my guess is that the next season will pretty much involve Jack Bauer trying to get back to the land of the living, while the Chinese don't buy for a minute that he's been "killed."

Posted by: Tribe at May 24, 2005 03:15 PM | #

Of course he'll be back. He's a damn ninja. He's untouchable, especially with the friends he's got. He'll be back as a rogue agent communicating with key members of CTU and, of course, President David "The Man" Palmer. AND, Chase will come back. Oh, his arm? He has a machine gun atachment, interchangable with a chainsaw blade. Chloe will be promoted to field ops and she'll be doing mad hacking out during hails of gunfire. She's also married Edgar in the offseason, and gotten qualified for sniper. Edgar has also been promoted to Director of CTU and been given a special ducky hat in recognition of putting up with everyones crap. Big Tony and Michelle are gone, moved to Tijauna or something. Curtis has an accident in the offseason which leaves him blind, and he has a dog in the field with him that spots for him, and he's one hell of a good shot.

Another possibility is that the weak miserable soft unforgivable agent who gave up Jack actually grows a huge pair, and recants his story and takes one for the team, as Jack CONTINUALLY does. Maybe it is too little too late, I'm not sure. Another scenario: the chinese prime minister hears the exact details of the abduction from the chinese embassy and knows that Jack was coragious in doing what he did and he was correct in doing so, and also. that it was a chinese guard who did the killing of his man. Also, his daughter was attending school in LA and would have been killed by the missile, along with everyone in the chinese embassy, if not for Jack, so he hails Jack a fallen hero, and Jack later shows up alive and all is forgiven. Egg rolls anyone! Does anyone else think the blowing up of the missile sequence should have been longer and maybe some missile to missile closups? BIG BLAST!! Fill the screen and all? After all , this was the bib moment, the culmination of all the previous 23 hours. Aside from that small suggestion, I LOVE 24 and i can quit whenever i want, (ummmm sure), but in January, DO NOT CALL ME ON MONDAY NIGHTS BETWEEN 9 and 10! JACK, we can't wait to see you again! And finally, President Palmer, could you pull the president aside and bitch slap him for us for a while? 24 hours worth would be just fine! Thank you and God bless America!

It really sucked how they outed jack like that. I'm not sure if that is the best way to end it, but at least they didn't kill Jack. So who's going to carry the show next year. Curtis is the only viable candidate to do it but he is not as ruthless as Jack. I'm hoping they'll find a way to bring Jack back some where down the line in next season and also bring David Palmer back. We will see. But the truth is that I was a little disappointed in how they stopped the missle. It seemed anti-climatic to me.

I love what they did in the finale! By ending it with Jack faking his own death, the writers are forcing themselves to become creative. I don't know how, but I'd bet my bottom dollar they find a way for Jack to return without it feeling forced. Can't wait until next season!

Jack will be back

Posted by: PZ at May 24, 2005 08:22 PM | #

Is it really so hard to figure out that 24 will be hopping as usual. It will simply be in such a fix as to HAVE to use the DEAD MAN star of the show BECAUSE no-one knows he is alive! He will be in an unusually useful position to invade, inspect, break into, or perform what ever bit of espionage only a dead man could carry out. All of this, of course, happening with out the "knowledge" (chuckle) of the United States government.

Who says 24 won't be without Jack... Hey, they could still have a 24 hour on Jack, on the run...

Posted by: Ryoga at May 25, 2005 01:31 AM | #

What an ending. How's the show going to continue now? One guess is the show change to be like 'The A-team'. Jack on the run from the government, helping people for money. He just needs a team. You never now?

Posted by: mark at May 25, 2005 02:23 AM | #

With all the Presidental pardons thrown around, someone will go to Jack and offer him the same in the next season. I thought Season 4 was the best by far.

The 24 Insider (http://www.24spoilers.tvheaven.com/) is saying that Kiefer will stay put for Season 5. So they'll come up with a big twist to get Jack back in action I guess. I need Audrey back though. I love Audrey. She's such a victim yet such a great sport. She had 7 horrific things happen to her and was still able to feel for someone else at the end (Jack). Think about it: 1. the kidnap, nearly died 2. the suicide attempt with her father (Heller), in order to not have the country humiliated on the web cast 3. the rescue (when Jack saved Audrey and Heller), nearly died again 4. the brother who was involved with the terrorists, and tortured (with the noise) 5. the injury to Paul and his conditions and operations 6. the death of her husband practically because of Jack 7. the death of Jack, or so she thinks. It was a hell of a day for Jack, but no one went through more bad shit than Audrey.

Help I'm having withdrawls already. 24 is the best show on TV. Need not say anymore

Posted by: Ron-Man at May 25, 2005 01:18 PM | #

I agree that now that Jack is "dead" it opens whole new worlds of clandestine activity for the writers. I also believe it highly important for the continuing success of the show that Chloe show a bit more cleavage.

Posted by: rcmayo at May 25, 2005 04:27 PM | #

All in all, season four was well-crafted. However, I thought it was fairly lame how Jack and CTU were able to locate the missile and bring it down. Tony and Jack are simply the best. As far as the President is concerned, how about this: the world court elects to charge george w. bush and dick cheney with war crimes, and the american people demand that Dennis Haysbert be inserted as our new head of state immediately. Should that happen, he'll find a way to bring our troops home and squash the terrorist network that is al-qaida within a year. Now that's my idea of Presidential leadership. 24 rules...but the best show on TV is The Wire.

Posted by: Barry at May 25, 2005 06:39 PM | #

I recorded the entire season on Tivo, so my Monday nights can remain constant up until football season. '24' is far and away the best drama on television with 'The Sheild' and 'The Wire' in second. I like the 'Jack as rogue agent' scenario the best, communicating through Kim who gets kidnapped every other show in attempts to find Jack.

Posted by: JBP at May 26, 2005 08:03 PM | #

Jack could become a terrorist, rember in season 3 the british ex sas hero said that my country betrayed me and so will yours at some point :O but if jacks a bad guy whos gonna stop him...... maybe david palmer!

I missed the season finale, and am desperately trying to find someone who will loan me a tape. If you have one, please! email me asap. Kat

WHAT...THe...HEll....I had no previous knowledge of the finale "changing the face of 24" or something like that. So this faked death scenario totally caught me off guard. Interesting though. And I agree, the shooting down of the missle seemed a little easy and they kinda glossed over it. I heard that Jack will be back with a new name and face for the 5th season. We will see. But my god, what a good series eh? The only complaint I have is that I felt more excited at some points mid-season than I did for the final 2 hours. In season 3, the final few hours were the best. I very pleased to hear that 24 will in fact be back for a 5th season. I just can't get enough Jack Bauer. I'm already experiencing withdrawal. Where will I turn to? Alias?? Hah...

Posted by: Ben at May 30, 2005 11:04 PM | #

24. Man, what a series. Now, my friends and me, before doing anything, we always think "what would Jack Bauer do?". I was just sad about Edgar. What about his romance with Cloe? Btw, between Audrey and Cloe, I go Cloe.

24 is exceptional TV. I haven't watched anything as riveting or been committed to watching anything ever. Watching an entire season in a short period of time (like a long international flight :-) ) is awesome. I plan to rewatch all four seasons beginning in October or November to be ready for January!

some possibilities: 1. a prequel, detailing the events between season 2 and 3, about how jack and company stopped the attempt on palmer's life (and missed mandy), would be interesting but kinda suck 2. immediately following the event of season 4, there will be no man-hunt for jack, by the u.s. government at least. the chinese (me, being chinese, just to throw it out there) would, on the other hand. a government agent that was supposed to be extradited got killed just before arrest? that just screams conspiracy to me. no one would believe the u.s. government when they say jack is dead. the chinese government (fictional) may even consider the possibilily of using mandy to hunt down jack. woohoo! 3. there are of course other ways to bring back jack, an old enemy that only jack can deal with (done, season 2); jack accidently exposed himself on the media and a man-hunt follows; a terrorist cell that recuits jack and jack decides to work undercover (sorta done, season 3); another government (british or maybe even chinese) that's facing terrorism and recuits jack

Does anyone have a tape or DVD of the 2005 season finale they would be willing to lend? (lending is legal, selling isn't). I'd pay the shipping and handling. I set the VCR on high speed accidently. It cut off the ending and I'm in big trouble with my wife.

Posted by: Scott C at June 13, 2005 04:50 AM | #

Well there would be no much need for a prequel between S2 and S3, since that's the story of the PS2 game that will be released this fall. :)

Posted by: Xandra at June 13, 2005 11:03 AM | #

The "prequel" between seasons 2 and 3 is being handled by the Playstation game coming out this fall. As for season 5, my guess is it takes place away from Los Angeles. I'm guessing it will be a little smaller story (more like season 1), since you can't get any bigger than season 4. I don't think that the last 5 minutes were Jack's farewell, but instead the farewell of the rest of the cast. I'd expect that only Jack would be back next year, and not the rest of CTU.

Is it just me or did the end seem a lot like the old Incredible Hulk episodes. Jack with his brown bag walking along the train tracks. That just reminded me of David Banner doing the same thing.

Posted by: Paul at June 15, 2005 06:35 PM | #

In 2005 a crack commando was taken captive in order to be sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn't commit. This man promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire Jack Bauer.

I read that Kiefer Sutherland is due back in the 5th day of 24. How are we going to survive the lull waiting for the new series to hit our screens! I have a feeling that somehow Mandy from day 4 is going to have something to do with day 5 and Jack is going to get called up by David Palmer to save the day yet again...Just wish Audrey had given Jack a break...

Posted by: Justin Jasper at July 1, 2005 12:08 AM | #

I also read that kiefer will be back in season 5, He better be. Another scenario could be that Kim Bauer because she thinks her dad is dead takes his place at CTU and she becomes the new face of 24 :s

I'm sure that there will be a 5 season with Bauer. I think that the Chinese's Government will be the center of the action. But, before you must remember that is being producing "24:The Game"!! This is a movie with Jack, Kim, Tony and Chase! I don't doubt that 24 is the Best Tv show that I've never seen. Best wishes from Catalonia for all fans of 24!
